Århus Jazzorkester on NOV 14th
For the first time, internationally acclaimed Norwegian conductor and composer Geir Lysne
takes the helm of the jazz orchestra as chief conductor, presenting music from his own
award-winning repertoire.
Geir Lysne is among Europe’s most prominent figures in modern big band music.
Throughout a long career, he has renewed the Nordic jazz tradition with strong
compositions, original soundscapes, and an ability to create music that unites power and
poetry in intense musical narratives. His works have been performed worldwide and have
received international acclaim for their artistic quality and innovative approach to the big
band format.
The concert features a selection of Lysne's most notable works, where Norwegian
soundscapes meet the improvisational energy of jazz. Together with the award-winning
Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, a repertoire unfolds that ranges from intimate, atmospheric
passages to grand and explosive orchestral sounds.
Appearing as a special guest is Norwegian percussionist Terje Isungset, known
internationally for his unique, nature-inspired musical expression. His distinctive sound
world adds extra depth to the concert, creating a special connection to the Nordic roots
that characterize Geir Lysne’s music.
